The Father and His Daughters |

English Original

A man had two daughters. He married one to a gardener and the other to a potter. After some time, he decided to visit them to see how they were faring.

First, he went to see the daughter who married the gardener. He asked how she and her husband were doing. She replied that overall, they were doing well. "But," she added, "I do wish we could have some good heavy rain. The garden needs it badly."

Then, he visited the daughter who married the potter and asked the same question. She said they had nothing to complain about. "However," she continued, "I do wish we could have some nice dry weather to dry the pottery."

Her father looked at her with a humorous expression. "You want dry weather," he said, "and your sister wants rain. I was going to pray for your wishes to be granted, but now it strikes me that I had better not mention the subject at all."
