The Man of Qi Who Feared the Sky Would Fall |

English Original

A man from the state of Qi lived in constant fear that the sky would collapse, the earth would sink, and humanity would have no place to live. This anxiety left him unable to eat or sleep well.

His friends tried to reassure him, saying, "The sky is merely an accumulation of air, weightless and impossible to collapse. The stars are also made of air; even if they fell, they would not harm anyone. The earth is made of solid soil, extremely sturdy and impossible to sink."

Upon hearing this, the man was instantly set at ease. Seeing this, his friend was delighted and also felt relieved.
