A house was overrun with mice. A cat discovered this, entered the house, and began to catch and eat them one by one. Fearing for their lives, the mice stayed hidden in their holes. The cat could no longer reach them and realized she must tempt them forth with a trick. For this purpose, she jumped onto a peg, hung from it, and pretended to be dead. One mouse, peeping stealthily out, saw her and said, "Ah, my good madam, even if you turn into a meal-bag, we will not come near you."
