The Magic Brush |

English Original

Ma Liang loved to draw, but he was too poor to afford even food, let alone a brush.

One day, an old man with a white beard visited Ma Liang and gave him a brush. Before leaving, the old man said, "I know you love to draw but cannot afford a brush. Take this one and use it to help the poor. This brush is magic."

Ma Liang drew a cake, and it became real. Overjoyed, he drew a lot of bread, eggs, fruits, boats, and houses for the poor. Everything he drew turned into reality. He drew tirelessly.

Soon, the poor had houses, boats, and plenty of food. They no longer worried about their next meal.

When the landlord heard the news, he demanded that Ma Liang draw a mountain of gold in front of his house. Ma Liang thought for a while, then drew a vast sea first, and placed a golden mountain in its center.

The landlord was desperate to reach the mountain but had no boat. He ordered Ma Liang to draw one. Once the landlord was in the boat and sailing toward the gold, Ma Liang drew a great storm. The boat was tossed violently on the waves.

"Help! Help!" cried the landlord. The poor people watched happily, and no one helped him. The storm sank the boat, and the landlord drowned.

Everyone said, "Thank goodness! Now we can live happily."
