The Flying Turtle |

English Original

One bright sunny morning, Mr. Turtle grew bored in the water and decided to go ashore.

"I'm tired of swimming all day. I'll go out on the shore today," he said.

On his way, he met Mrs. Fish.
"Good morning, Mr. Turtle. Where are you going so early?"
"I'm going out of the water. I plan to walk along the shore."
"On the shore?! I envy you, Mr. Turtle," said the fish.
"Why is that?"
"If I go out of the water, I'll die. You are very lucky. Please tell me about the outside world. What is out there?"

Mr. Turtle thought for a moment. "Well, Mrs. Fish, there is so much to see. First, there are trees and mountains. Second, there are houses and people. Third, there is the sky."
"Tell me about the sky!"
"It is blue and beautiful, even bigger than the sea. You can see everything from there, but you must fly."
"You are lucky, Mr. Turtle. But can you fly, too?"
"Well... of course. It's easy. I'll teach you someday," Mr. Turtle boasted before quickly excusing himself.

On the shore, Mr. Turtle admired the trees and saw a bird flying. "Birds are so lucky. I wish I could fly, too," he sighed. Just then, a little butterfly landed on a flower and then flew away. "It's so unfair. Even that little butterfly can fly. Why can't I?"

Mrs. Eagle overheard him. "Hello there, Mr. Turtle. What did you just say?"
"Oh, Mrs. Eagle! I said I want to fly. Perhaps you can teach me?"
"Ha! You must be joking. How can a turtle fly? You don't even have wings, and you are too heavy."
"Oh, no! Then I can't fly?"
"No, but you can swim. I can't, so cheer up."

Mr. Turtle had another idea. "Mrs. Eagle, can you take me up? Just this once. I want to see the land and the sea from the sky."
"It's too dangerous. What if you fall?"
"Don't worry. I'll hold on tight. I'll be careful."

The turtle kept begging until the eagle finally agreed. "Okay, Mr. Turtle. Just this once. Never again."

As they soared into the sky, Mr. Turtle was scared at first. "Oh my goodness! It's scary up here!"
"Are you okay? Do you want to go back down?" asked the eagle.
"No, I'm fine now. Look below! It's so beautiful. I feel like I'm flying!"

When the eagle suggested going down, the turtle insisted on going higher. Up they went.
"It is so wonderful here. I think I can fly by myself now!" exclaimed the turtle.
"What?! Are you crazy? You can't fly by yourself!" warned the eagle.
"Yes, I can. I'll show you. Please, let me go!"

Reluctantly, the eagle let go. The turtle began to fall immediately.
"What's happening? Why am I not flying? Oh, no!!! I should have stayed on the land!"

Mrs. Fish watched from below. "Hey, why isn't Mr. Turtle flying? He is coming down really fast! Be careful, Mr. Turtle! There's a big rock below!"

Splash and crack!
The turtle landed on a big rock, and his shell broke into pieces.
"Poor Mr. Turtle," sighed the fish. "I don't envy him anymore."

MORAL: Know your limits.
