The Three Sacrifices |

English Original

Sam and Becky were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Sam turned to his wife and asked, "Becky, have you ever been unfaithful to me?"

Becky hesitated. "Oh, Sam, why ask that now? You really don't want to know..."

"But I do," Sam insisted. "Please tell me."

"Alright," Becky sighed. "Yes, three times."

"Three? When?" Sam asked, surprised.

"Do you remember when you were 35," Becky began, "and you desperately wanted to start your own business, but no bank would give you a loan? Then, one day, the bank president himself came to our house and approved the loan without question."

"You did that for me?" Sam exclaimed, his respect for her deepening. "That was the first time. What about the second?"

"Remember your last heart attack," Becky continued, "when you needed that complex surgery and no surgeon would take the risk? Then, a top specialist traveled here to operate on you himself, and you recovered fully."

Sam was moved. "You saved my life! I have the most wonderful wife. You must love me dearly to do such a thing. So, when was the third time?"

Becky paused. "Well, Sam, remember a few years ago when you really wanted to become president of the golf club, and you were 17 votes short...?"
