There was a large, fat woman who had a small, thin husband. He worked in a big office and received his weekly pay every Friday evening. As soon as he got home on Fridays, he had to give all his money to his wife. She would then give him back only enough for his daily lunch at the office.
One day, the man came home very happily. He hurried into the living room, where his wife was listening to the radio and eating apples.
"You'll never guess what happened to me today, dear," he said. After a brief pause, he continued, "I won ten thousand dollars on a lottery ticket!"
"That's wonderful!" his wife exclaimed happily. But after a moment's thought, she said angrily, "Wait a minute! How could you afford to buy a lottery ticket?"
