Who Will Bell the Cat? |

English Original

One day, the mice, who were terrified of the cat, gathered for a meeting.

The first mouse said, "More and more of us are being killed by the cat lately. Does anyone have an idea to stop this?"

The second mouse sighed deeply. "We live in constant fear. We'll all be dead soon."

So, the mice tried to think of a way to avoid being caught.

"I have an idea," one mouse suggested. "What if we all jump on him together?"

"Hmm, that's silly. How could we possibly defeat the cat?" another replied.

"We shouldn't dream of fighting him. Instead, let's think of a way to know when he's coming." The mice thought and thought.

Finally, a quiet mouse stepped forward. "What if we hang a bell around the cat's neck? Then it will ring whenever he approaches."

"Wow! That's a brilliant idea! We could escape as soon as we hear the bell." They all clapped with joy.

Then, the oldest mouse spoke. "That is indeed a very good idea. But who is going to hang the bell around the cat's neck?"

The mice just looked at one another. Then, one by one, they silently slipped back into their holes.
