English Original
A man fell gravely ill and made a vow to the gods: if they restored his health, he would sacrifice a hundred oxen. The gods, curious to see if he would keep his promise, granted him a swift recovery. However, the man owned no oxen. Instead, he crafted a hundred small oxen from tallow, placed them on an altar, and declared, "Ye gods, I call you to witness that I have discharged my vow."
The gods determined to repay his deceit. They sent him a dream, commanding him to go to the seashore where he would find a hundred crowns. In great excitement, he hurried to the shore, only to encounter a band of robbers. They seized him, sold him into slavery, and the price he fetched was exactly one hundred crowns.
