Ajax the Great | 巨人埃杰克斯

English Original

Ajax, known as "the Great," was a Greek hero of immense stature and courage, though often described as slow-witted. When the Trojan War began, he led his forces from Salamis to join the Greek army at Aulis. Renowned as one of the most trusted champions of the Greek cause, he was tasked with guarding one flank of the Greek camp near Troy, where his bravery on the battlefield was legendary.

After the death of Achilles, Ajax became one of the two primary contenders for the hero's divine armor and shield, competing against Odysseus. When the arms were ultimately awarded to Odysseus, Ajax was driven mad with grief and humiliation. Unable to bear this dishonor, he took his own life.

Later, when Odysseus journeyed to the Underworld to seek counsel, the shade of Ajax turned away from him in silent disdain. In the afterlife, haunted by the bitter memories of his former life, Ajax chose to be reborn as a lion.
