English Original
Once there was a fool who was bald.
A man came along and hit the fool's head with pears several times. Although the blows caused the fool's head to bleed, he quietly endured them and made no attempt to protect himself or run away.
A witness asked, "Why didn't you run away? You stood still and let him hit you until your head bled."
The fool replied, "That man is swollen with his own strength but lacks wisdom. Seeing my bald head, he mistook it for a rock and hit it with pears. Bruising my head was the only result."
The other man pointed out, "You call him a fool, but you are the fool. If you weren't so foolish, you wouldn't have been hit, gotten your head bruised, and still not run away."
