English Original
A cat caught a cock and pondered how to find a reasonable excuse for eating him. He accused the cock of being a nuisance to men by crowing at night and disturbing their sleep.
The cock defended himself, saying he did this for the benefit of men, so they might rise in time for their labors.
The cat replied, "Although you abound in specious apologies, I shall not remain supperless." He then made a meal of the cock.
