Once upon a time, there lived a princess named Safia, beloved by her parents, the King and Queen.
A wicked magician, disguised as a persecuted scholar, gained sanctuary in the palace. Secretly plotting to seize the throne, he tricked and captured Princess Safia, the Queen, and finally the King, turning each into a tiny doll and locking them in a cupboard. He then ruled the kingdom in their absence.
One day, a mouse discovered the imprisoned princess in the cupboard. Moved by her plight, the mouse sought advice from a Wise Woman living in a hollow tree. The Wise Woman instructed the tiny princess to find a magical orange horse, ride it to a sacred pear tree to retrieve a special pear, and then journey to the Well of the Green Ogre.
Safia followed the instructions. She found the horse, obtained the topmost pear from the sacred tree, and dropped it into the ogre's mouth at the well. The pear contained the magician's soul, and its destruction killed him instantly. Safia and her parents returned to their normal sizes.
Upon returning to the palace, they found the magician already dead. Safia went to thank the Wise Woman, but the enchanted tree had vanished. In its place stood a handsome young prince, who revealed he was the mouse, freed from the magician's spell. The King, grateful, offered the prince Safia's hand in marriage, and they lived happily ever after.
