I met my soulmate at the tender age of seventeen. He was clearly attracted to me and thrilled by our encounter. He asked where I lived and understood the directions perfectly, as we were from the same hometown. He said, "I'll meet you there at midnight," and he was on time.
When he arrived, I was sitting on my car hood, filled with anxious anticipation. He approached with a handsome smile and bright eyes, took my hand, and said, "Let's walk." I slid off the hood and walked with him to my parents' driveway.
Hand in hand, as we turned into the driveway, he stopped me and stood facing me. Smiling, he asked, "Are you seeing anybody?" I replied, "No." He looked at me quizzically and said, "Yes, you are. You're seeing me!" I made him go home around 3 a.m. Though he protested, he left but returned later that morning around nine.
The day flew by, and before I knew it, I was at a basketball court at midnight, watching him shoot hoops with friends. Every time someone made a basket, he would come over and kiss me. Realizing how into me he was, I pulled him from the game to sit with me at a nearby picnic table—reasonably private.
He said, "I have something to tell you. I have a one-month-old daughter." I asked, "Do you still have ties with the mother?" He explained they had been separated throughout the pregnancy and that he was sent away when he tried to visit the hospital after she was born.
I then said, "I have something to tell you, too." He sat back as if to say, "Bring it on." I shared, "I'm five months pregnant with my ex-boyfriend's baby." Almost immediately, he replied calmly yet seriously, "I'll be there."
And he was. Our baby was born a few months later, and he loved this child completely. We also loved each other completely—so completely that we had another baby every three years. It's been ten and a half years now, and we still want to spend eternity together. Our family of six fills our home because this man filled my heart. I pray that everyone may experience this kind of love.
