Stupid Orders |

English Original

When Nasreddin was a boy, he never did what he was told. His father, knowing this, would always tell him to do the opposite of what he actually wanted.

One day, while crossing a shallow river with sacks of flour on their donkeys, one sack on Nasreddin's donkey began to slip. "That sack is nearly in the water! Press down hard on it!" his father shouted.

Expecting his son to do the opposite as usual, the father was shocked when Nasreddin obeyed. He pressed down, and the sack sank, losing all the flour.

"What have you done?" the father shouted angrily.

"Well, father," Nasreddin replied. "This time, I did exactly as you told me, to show you how stupid your orders always are."
