English Original
Charles Dickens, the famous English novelist, was very fond of his fine Persian cat, which had pure white fur.
One evening, as he was absorbed in reading by candlelight, the candle suddenly went out. He relit it and resumed reading, only to find himself in darkness again moments later. After relighting the candle a second time, he soon noticed his cat trying to extinguish the flame with her paw.
Dickens understood her intention clearly: she wanted him to stop reading and play with her. He obliged, giving her some milk as well. Content, the cat curled up on the sofa for a nap, allowing Dickens to continue his reading undisturbed.
