English Original
A man once caught an eagle. After clipping its wings, he released it among the fowls in his hen-house. The eagle moped in a corner, looking dejected and forlorn. After a while, the captor sold it to a neighbor, who took it home and let its wings grow again.
Once the eagle regained the use of its wings, it flew out, caught a hare, and brought it home to present to its benefactor.
A fox observed this and said to the eagle, "Don't waste your gifts on him! Go and give them to the man who first caught you. Make him your friend, and then perhaps he won't catch you and clip your wings a second time."
