A teacher asked her class, "Who was the first man?"
"George Washington!" a little boy shouted promptly.
The teacher smiled indulgently and asked, "How do you figure that George Washington was the first man?"
"Because," the little boy replied, "he was first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen."
At that moment, an older boy raised his hand.
"Well," the teacher said to him, "who do you think was the first man?"
"I don't know his name," the older boy said, "but I know it wasn't George Washington, ma'am. The history book says George Washington married a widow, so there must have been a man before him."
