When I was about seven, my grandfather took me to the fish pond on the farm. He told me to throw a stone into the water and watch the ripples it created. Then he asked me to think of myself as that stone.
"You may create many splashes in your life," he said, "but the waves from those splashes will disturb the peace of others. Remember, you are responsible for what you put into your circle, and your circle touches many others."
"Live so that the good from your circle sends peace to others. A splash from anger or jealousy sends those feelings outward. You are responsible for both."
That was when I first realized each person creates inner peace or discord that flows into the world. We cannot create world peace if we are riddled with inner conflict, hatred, doubt, or anger.
We radiate our inner feelings and thoughts, spoken or not. Whatever splashes inside us spills out, creating beauty or discord in the interconnected circles of life.
