One day, a little monkey was playing by a well. He looked into the well and shouted, "Oh my! The moon has fallen into the well!"
An older monkey ran over, looked in, and exclaimed, "Goodness me! The moon really is in the water!"
Soon, a whole troop of monkeys gathered. Peering into the well, they all cried, "The moon did fall in! Come on, let's get it out!"
The oldest monkey then hung upside down from a tree branch. He grabbed the feet of the next monkey, who grabbed the feet of the next, and so on, forming a chain down towards the moon's reflection in the water.
Just as they were about to reach it, the oldest monkey looked up and saw the real moon shining in the sky. He yelled excitedly, "Don't be so foolish! The moon is still in the sky!"
