A bat fell to the ground and was caught by a weasel. The bat earnestly besought the weasel to spare its life. The weasel refused, saying it was the natural enemy of all birds. The bat assured the weasel that it was not a bird, but a mouse, and thus saved itself.
Shortly afterwards, the bat fell to the ground again and was caught by another weasel. The bat likewise entreated this weasel not to eat it. The weasel said it had a special hostility towards mice. The bat assured the weasel that it was not a mouse, but a bat, and so escaped a second time.
It is wise to turn circumstances to good account.
