As legend has it, in the vast wilderness of ancient northern China, there lived a colossal bird known as the roc.
The roc was immense, with a back like a great mountain and wings like vast clouds that could blot out the sky. When it spread its wings, it could break through storms and soar ninety thousand li high, flying towards the southern sea.
A small bird called the quail hopped about on the ground, carefree and content. Looking up at the roc soaring in the sky, it couldn't help but laugh: "Hey, look how pompous you are! See me? One leap carries me over ten chi. How delightful! Every day I come and go freely among these weeds and thickets. Don't I fly quite well too? But you, where can you possibly fly to?"
